Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian has thanked Pope Leo for what he described as a “moral” stance against US attacks on Iran. He said the Pope’s position was fair and rational, and came in response to actions he called unlawful and destabilising. The remarks highlight Iran’s effort to build diplomatic support amid rising tensions.
Pezeshkian said the US and Israeli strikes were carried out under false pretexts and during ongoing negotiations. He also criticised statements by US President Donald Trump, calling them dangerous and irresponsible. Moreover, he said such policies undermine international law and global stability.

The Iranian president warned that US and Israeli actions pose risks not only to Iran but also to the broader international system. He argued that continued military pressure is worsening regional insecurity. Furthermore, he said Iran remains open to talks under conditions based on national interest and “wisdom.”
Separately, Iran’s UN envoy Amir Saeid Iravani blamed the United States and its allies for instability in the Strait of Hormuz. He said attacks on energy infrastructure have disrupted global supply chains and energy markets. Consequently, he warned of growing risks to international economic stability.

Iravani said Iran has suffered repeated unlawful attacks and large-scale civilian casualties. He added that Tehran is prepared to restore stability in the Strait if tensions ease. Analysts say the exchanges reflect escalating diplomatic confrontation at the UN level.
