Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to ensure foolproof security arrangements during Chand Raat and Eidul Azha across the province, with strict implementation of security SOPs.
Chairing a meeting on Eid security and administrative arrangements, the chief minister ordered installation of metal detectors and walk-through gates at Eid congregations and directed assistant commissioners to meet religious scholars and brief them on the Punjab government’s security and cleanliness measures for Eidul Azha.
She ordered extraordinary security arrangements at sensitive places and directed authorities to ensure patrolling in markets on Chand Raat along with deployment of women police personnel. CM Punjab also directed officials to ensure real-time monitoring through the Safe City system during security operations and ordered strict implementation of the ban on camps established by proscribed organisations for collection of sacrificial hides.
She further directed district police officers to personally visit areas to ensure enforcement of the ban on camps set up by banned outfits and ordered authorities to prevent dissemination of hate material on social media and other platforms. The chief minister also directed action against one-wheeling and hooliganism by motorcyclists during Eid holidays.
During the briefing, Home Secretary Punjab Ahmad Javed Qazi informed the meeting that Eid prayers would be offered at 38,507 locations across the province.
The meeting was told that Section 144 had been imposed to ban roasting of siri paye at public places, while action would also be taken against those disposing of animal remains in drains and public areas. She directed authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on aerial firing and display of weapons during Eidul Azha.
Separately, Maryam Nawaz expressed sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in a bomb blast in Quetta. She extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
Punjab CM says protecting markhor vital for preserving biodiversity
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday said the primary objective of observing the International Day of Pakistan’s national animal, the Markhor , was to protect the species and its natural habitat from extinction.
In her message issued on the occasion, she said climate and environmental changes posed the biggest threat to the survival of the Markhor .
The chief minister said the Markhor symbolised Pakistan’s rich natural heritage and represented the collective commitment to preserving biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance.
She stressed that collective efforts and renewed resolve were needed to ensure the protection of the Markhor.
CM Punjab further said the Markhor was a valuable species playing an important role in promoting the local economy.
