Ishaq Dar will address the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday as Pakistan continues diplomatic efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran. The high-level debate comes amid ongoing tensions and fragile ceasefire arrangements linked to the regional conflict. Pakistan has recently intensified efforts to help secure a permanent end to hostilities.
The debate, titled “Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-Centered International System,” will be hosted by Wang Yi. China currently holds the rotating presidency of the 15-member Security Council. Dar will remain in New York from May 26 to 28 for several diplomatic engagements.

Besides addressing the Security Council debate, Dar is also scheduled to attend a United Nations “Group of Friends” meeting. In a statement posted on X, the Pakistani foreign minister said he looked forward to constructive discussions on regional and global developments. Officials said the visit reflects Islamabad’s growing diplomatic engagement on international crises.
The UN meeting comes as fighting between the United States and Iran remains paused under a fragile ceasefire reportedly secured through Pakistani mediation on April 8. The conflict began on February 28 after military strikes involving Israel and the United States targeted Tehran. Diplomatic efforts have since focused on preventing a wider regional escalation.
