LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday granted interim protective bail to Hamza Habib, husband of actor Momina Iqbal, in a case involving alleged threats to a ruling party lawmaker.

Hamza Habib appeared before the court along with his legal team in connection with an FIR registered in Jhang. Police had accused him of issuing life threats to PML-N Member of Provincial Assembly Saqib Chadhar.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel argued that Habib intended to join the police investigation to prove his innocence but feared possible arrest by law enforcement. He requested protective bail to allow his appearance before the relevant court for pre-arrest bail proceedings.

Justice Abher Gul Khan accepted the plea and granted protective bail to the petitioner until June 1, directing him to approach the relevant court for further legal proceedings.

According to police officials, the case was registered after allegations that Habib had issued serious threats to the legislator. Investigations are currently underway.

After the court hearing, Hamza Habib spoke to media persons and stated that he had already solemnised a nikah with Momina Iqbal, referring to her as his wife. He added that their wedding ceremony would proceed as planned.

He also rejected the allegations, claiming that the FIR was false and politically motivated. Habib further alleged that the MPA had attempted to pressure him to distance himself from Momina Iqbal in exchange for money, which he said he refused.

“I cannot be bought,” he said, adding that he would continue to defend his position through legal channels.

The case will now proceed before the relevant district court, where Habib is expected to seek pre-arrest bail.
