Pakistan to host Women’s T20 World Cup

Published on: June 1, 2026 9:43 PM

Pakistan will host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028, marking a significant achievement for the country’s growing role in international cricket. The decision matters because it strengthens women’s cricket and expands Pakistan’s presence on the global stage. Players, fans, cricket boards, and participating nations will be directly affected by the tournament.

The International Cricket Council announced the decision after its Board meeting in Ahmedabad on Monday. The event is expected to be one of the biggest women’s cricket tournaments ever staged in Pakistan. Under the existing ICC arrangement between Pakistan and India, any matches involving India will be played at a neutral venue.

Alongside the hosting announcement, the ICC approved several changes to playing conditions and tournament scheduling. The governing body authorized a trial allowing the use of the pink ball in Test matches when both teams agree. The measure aims to reduce playing time lost because of poor light conditions during matches.

In another major development, the ICC extended the innings break in Twenty20 Internationals to 15 minutes. The board also rescheduled the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027, which will now take place from February 14 to 28, 2027. Additionally, the Emerging Nations Trophy 2026 will feature 10 teams, including five Full Members and five Associate Members.

The ICC further approved a new 16-team global qualifying event for the Men’s T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, the Canada Cricket Board was suspended over serious governance breaches, although Canada’s national team remains eligible for ICC events. The board also announced reviews in Bangladesh and expressed concern over the rapid growth of franchise cricket, creating a committee to protect the balance between international and league competitions.
