PCB pays tribute as Chacha Cricket bids farewell

Published on: June 2, 2026 6:31 PM

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has paid a heartfelt tribute to Chaudhry Abdul Jalil, widely known as Chacha Cricket, honouring his extraordinary dedication and unwavering support for Pakistan cricket. Through a special commemorative message and visual tribute, the board celebrated a man who spent decades inspiring fans and standing firmly behind the national team through every high and low.

The PCB described Chacha Cricket as more than just a supporter, calling him a symbol of loyalty, passion, and commitment to Pakistan cricket. Accompanying the tribute was a simple yet emotional message, thanking him for a lifetime of memories and encouragement. His farewell appearance is expected during the final One-Day International against Australia at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Thursday.

Born in Sialkot on October 8, 1949, Chacha Cricket first rose to national prominence during Pakistan’s famous match against India in Sharjah in 1986. His energetic support, distinctive appearance, and enthusiasm quickly made him one of the most recognised figures in cricket stadiums. Over time, he became an inseparable part of Pakistan’s cricket culture both at home and abroad.

Dressed in his trademark green shalwar kameez, white beard, and star-and-crescent cap, Chacha Cricket became a familiar sight wherever Pakistan played. His connection with the sport grew even stronger when he was officially associated with the PCB in 1996, further cementing his place as one of the country’s most beloved cricket personalities.

Behind his colourful presence stood years of personal sacrifice and devotion to the game. Reports indicate that he left a lucrative job in the United Arab Emirates and sold personal belongings to finance his travels, allowing him to follow Pakistan’s cricket team across the world. Consequently, his commitment earned admiration from players, officials, and cricket lovers alike.

As Chacha Cricket prepares to step away after nearly four decades in the stands, he leaves behind a remarkable legacy of passion and perseverance. His journey reflects the emotional bond between fans and the sport, while his presence at countless international matches transformed him into a lasting symbol of Pakistan cricket’s spirit and identity.
