A newlywed woman in India has reportedly sought a divorce after her husband took his family along on what was supposed to be the couple’s honeymoon, leading to a dispute that has now reached a counselling centre.

According to Indian media reports, the marriage was arranged through an online matrimonial platform between a woman from Uttar Pradesh and a man from the Patel Nagar area of New Delhi. Following their wedding, the couple planned a honeymoon trip, but tensions arose when the husband’s parents and siblings also joined the vacation.

The woman later told counsellors that the primary purpose of a honeymoon is to allow newly married couples to spend quality time together and strengthen their relationship. However, she said the constant presence of her husband’s family prevented the couple from enjoying privacy and building a stronger bond during the trip.

The disagreement reportedly escalated after the couple returned home, with the woman eventually demanding a divorce. The matter was subsequently referred to a counselling centre in an effort to resolve the conflict.

The husband defended his decision, stating that he wanted all family members to enjoy the trip together and did not believe there was anything inappropriate about including his parents and siblings in the travel plans. He reportedly maintained that his actions were not intended to upset his wife and did not consider them a mistake.

Media reports indicate that the couple has already participated in three counselling sessions, but efforts to reconcile their differences have so far been unsuccessful. Counsellors recently conducted another session and encouraged both parties to take additional time to reflect on their future before making a final decision regarding their marriage.

The unusual case has attracted attention on social media, with users expressing differing views on expectations surrounding marriage, family involvement and personal boundaries. The counselling process is expected to continue as both sides consider their next steps.
