Iran has described the agreement reached with the United States to end the recent Middle East conflict as a diplomatic victory for Tehran. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, head of the Iranian negotiating team, said the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding reflected Iran’s strength and resilience. His remarks underscored Tehran’s effort to present the agreement as a successful outcome of its negotiating strategy.
Speaking at a conference in Azerbaijan, Ghalibaf said the understanding reached in Islamabad was not achieved through pressure or coercion. Instead, he credited what he called the determination and authority of the Iranian nation for securing the agreement. He argued that the outcome demonstrated Iran’s ability to protect its interests through a combination of resistance and diplomacy.
Ghalibaf described the Islamabad agreement as a declaration of American defeat. According to him, the accord reflected a recognition that military confrontation could not deliver a lasting solution to regional tensions. He maintained that Iran entered negotiations from a position of confidence and achieved results without compromising its core principles.
The comments come as diplomatic efforts continue to implement the framework established under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Negotiators from both sides are expected to continue discussions aimed at addressing key issues, including sanctions, security arrangements and broader regional stability. The agreement has been presented as a roadmap toward a more comprehensive settlement.
Ghalibaf also reiterated Iran’s position that regional security should be managed by countries within the Middle East rather than external powers. He said lasting peace and stability require cooperation among regional states. His remarks reflect Tehran’s longstanding view that local solutions are essential for resolving conflicts and maintaining security across the region.
