Govt will not intervene as long as PAT protest remains peaceful: Shehbaz

Published on: January 9, 2018 5:54 PM

LAHORE: Punjab Cheif Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the government would not intervene as long as protest called by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) remains peaceful, adding a strict action will be taken if state property is destroyed.

PAT Cheif Dr Tahirul Qadri has announced a countrywide protest movement against the PML-N government from January 17 as the deadline, given for the resignation of Punjab Cheif Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, has ended.

While addressing a press conference in Lahore on Monday, the chief minister said that the government would not mind any peaceful protest.

Shehbaz also condemned US President Donald Trump’s statement that accused Pakistan of “lying and deceiving”. “We have given countless sacrifices in the war against terror,” he said.

He further said that Pakistan did not need the US aid to fight against terrorism.

Earlier the chief minister visited the state-of-the-art Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute to see “medical facilities being extended to patients”.

Shehbaz added that his government was utilizing all available resources to ensure modern healthcare facilities to people.
