Indonesian president receives guard of honour at PM house

Published on: January 27, 2018 11:06 AM

ISLAMABAD: Indonesian President Joko Widodo has received a guard of honour presented by smartly turned-out personnel of the armed forces at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad.

Upon his arrival at the PM house this morning, the Indonesian president was greeted by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

President Widodo, accompanied by First Lady Iriana Widodo, several ministers and a business delegation, is currently on a two-day visit to Pakistan.

On Friday, he addressed the joint parliamentary session of Pakistan and became the second Indonesian president to do so, with Dr Ahmed Sukarno the first president of Indonesia who addressed the National Assembly of Pakistan on June 26, 1963.

PM to take up matter of Zulfiqar with Widodo

Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif had said that Abbasi would take up the matter of  Zulfiqar Ali, a Pakistani citizen on death row in Batu Prison in Indonesia, with the Indonesian President.

Zulfiqar was arrested in 2004 and sentenced to death on drug charges, following a forced confession allegedly. He has been diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer.

“We will request for repatriation in view of the terminal illness of the prisoner,” Khawaja Asif tweeted.
