Rao Anwar remains at large as Islamabad police raid house to no avail

Published on: January 30, 2018 8:07 PM

ISLAMABAD: Police on Tuesday raided a house in Islamabad’s F10 region in search of suspended Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar, but were unable to find him.

The former police officer, who is wanted in Naqeebullah Mehsud’s alleged encounter remains at large as the Supreme Court’s (SC) three-day deadline to arrest Anwar ended earlier today. Police sources told Geo News that a house in the nation’s capital was raided but to no avail.

The raided property, identified as House-133, Street-43, F-10/4, does not belong to the suspended police officer and no one was found inside the premises, said the sources.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday gave a three-day deadline to the Sindh Police to arrest Rao Anwar. The deadline was given during a hearing of a suo motu case regarding the extra-judicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsood.

Naqeebullah, 27, hailing from South Waziristan and residing in Karachi since 2008, was allegedly apprehended by the police in Karachi on January 2, 2018, and was killed on January 17 in a controversial encounter besides three other suspects by a police team headed by Rao Anwar in the Usman Khaskheli Goth on the outskirts of Karachi.
