Published on: February 12, 2018 4:00 PM

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has on Monday written a letter to Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi requesting state funeral for deceased lawyer and human rights activist, Asma Jahangir.

In an official letter written to PM Abbasi, CM Sindh said that Pakistan has lost a national treasure in Asma Jahangir and that the rights activist deserves a state funeral for her selfless services to the nation.

“With the passing of human rights activist and lawyer Asma Jahangir, Pakistan has lost a national treasure. I am writing to you to consider giving Asma Jahangir a state funeral, honouring her decades of selfless services to the nation,” said the letter.

Moreover, the letter mentioned that Sindh government has announced a day of mourning today. He also urged PM Abbasi to allow the national flag to fly at half mast on February 13, the day of Jahangir’s funeral.

Asma Jahangir passes away

On Sunday, the former president of Supreme Court Bar Association and a staunch human rights activist passed away in Lahore.

Asma was rushed to a private hospital in Punjab’s provincial capital where she passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest earlier on the day.

Asma’s housemaid told the media that she was about to have breakfast when she suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.

Her funeral would be held outside Gaddafi Stadium on February 13 at 2.30 pm, announced the deceased’s family.
