Gulalai claims credit for PML-N NA-154 victory

Published on: February 16, 2018 4:15 PM

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) disgruntled member Ayesha Gulalai has on Friday claimed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s victory in NA-154 by-polls was due to her efforts in the constituency.

Talking to the media outside Parliament House in Islamabad, Gulalai said that Imran-led party lost in the constituency because she campaigned for the ruling party and against PTI.

“On the other hand, I led an election campaign on behalf of the ruling party to mend the public opinion against the PTI and reveal the party’s true face in front of people of Lodhran,” Gulalai said.

Taking jibes at PTI chief Imran Khan, Gulalai said that a ‘person of Imran’s character can not be my leader’ as he constantly ‘lies’.

The disgruntled MNA added that she would make an important announcement about launching her own faction of PTI soon and that she would contest opposite to Imran Khan in the coming general elections.

Earlier on Monday, PML-N candidate Iqbal Shah stood victorious with 116,590 votes, while PTI candidate Ali Tareen stood second with 91,230.

The NA-154 seat fell vacant when PTI’s Jahangir Tareen was disqualified by the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan in non-declaration of properties and assets case on technical grounds. Jahangir also resigned as party’s secretary general after the apex court’s judgement.
