Imran Khan responds to Billion Tree Tsunami critics

Published on: February 18, 2018 6:23 PM

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman on Sunday responded to those criticising Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s Billion Tree Tsunami project.

In a couple of messages on Twitter, Khan said that those belittling KP government’s efforts should rather worry about the ‘devastation’ of forests across Punjab and Sindh by Timber mafia rather than ‘maligning the greatest reforestation project in history’.

“We should all be concerned on how jungles of Punjab & Sindh have been devastated and encroached upon by timber mafia rather than maligning the greatest reforestation project in Pakistan’s history,” Khan said.

The PTI chief added that people across the country should be proud of the internationally acclaimed environmental project.

Last month, representatives of the opposition parties had contested PTI’s claims regarding the project in KP Assembly.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Sobia Shahid and Jamiat Ulaama-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Mufti Sayed Janan of the JUI-F had challenged the party’s claims of planting trees in various regions of the province.
