Malala visits ancestral home in Swat

SWAT: Nobel laureate and education activist Malala Yousufzai on Saturday reached her ancestral residence in Swat after a span of 6-years.

According to sources, Malala would also pay visits to acquaintances upon their invitation, while stern security measures are ensured in the region.

State Minister for Broadcasting and Information Marriyum Aurangzeb among other officials also accompanied Malala during the visit.

In an interview with a private news channel on Friday, Malala said that she had the right to live in Pakistan just as any other compatriot and that she plans on residing in the country on permanent basis.

The Nobel laureate, who in on a four-day visit to the country, added that Malala Fund aims to provide girls across the country with quality education.

When asked if she witnessed a change in the country from the time she left, Malala said that there has certainly been a lot of change and that the country is uniting for the collective good.

Malala Yousafzai was born in Shangla District in 1997. She was targeted by the Taliban in 2012 for asserting her right to education and advocating girls’ education in Swat.

She survived the attack and is currently studying in United Kingdom’s Oxford University.
