Wajid Zia should disclose identities of JIT’s unknown investigators, demands Nawaz

Published on: April 12, 2018 5:08 PM

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Thursday addressing the media outside accountability court said that key witness and head of Panama Papers Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia will have to disclose all the investigators part of the JIT.

During the Avenfield properties reference case proceedings today, it was revealed that 40 people had drafted the JIT report. Nawaz raised questions regarding those 40 unidentified investigators and staff members claiming that the decision may be based on false cases derived on grounds of forged facts.

Sharif in a conversation with the media remarked that the reason he had been disqualified was now proved to be baseless and a lie. The former PM demanded that the identities of all the aides of the JIT should be brought before the court so that the verdict against him remained neutral.

Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif along with daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar were charged in Avenfield properties reference case (London) in September last year.

Sharif was disqualified following the Panama Papers case verdict by the Supreme Court last year. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed supplementary reference cases against Nawaz Sharif and his family.

The case proceedings completed its key witness statement recording on March 27. Cross-examination of his statement by Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Haris was completed on Thursday and he is being cross-examined by Maryam Nawaz’s lawyer Amjad Pervaiz now.
