Taj Mahal minarets destroyed in thunderstorm

Published on: April 12, 2018 7:29 PM

Two minarets located at different entry gates of the Taj Mahal were damaged as a storm lashed Agra and other parts of Uttar Pradesh Wednesday night.

According to media reports, winds blowing at 130kmh caused the 12-feet metal pillar at the entry gate known as Darwaza-e-Rauza to collapse.

Relative authorities have reportedly begun their work to restore the damage.

The Taj Mahal was built by Mughal ruler Shah Jahan in the 17th century, and it is one of the most popular tourists’ attraction.

However, the Archaeological Survey of India has stated that the Taj Mahal had been losing its sheen and its structure was suffering due to increased pollution level in Agra.
