Will ensure caretaker PM is neutral: NA opposition leader

Published on: April 24, 2018 5:36 PM

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Opposition leader Khursheed Shah on Tuesday remarked that he will ensure that the caretaker Prime Minister (PM) is neutral and not a part of any political party.

While addressing the media, Shah said that he still had to discuss the matter of caretaker PM with Pakistan Peoples’ Party, adding that the discussion will be held under the presence of party chair Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.

Shah pressed that the general elections should be held as quickly as possible.

On April 11, Shah had met PM Abbasi to discuss the matter of interim government as the current government approaches its end of tenure on May 31.

He met with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi at the chambers of Parliament House.

Shah has repeatedly assured that the caretaker PM will be finalized after consultation from all the opposition parties.

In the wake of the upcoming general elections, the opposition political parties had demanded that elections are conducted under the interim government. Thus with the government’s tenure almost ending, discussions and meetings are being held to decide on the election of caretaker PM.

Both the PM and opposition leaders, as per the Constitution of Pakistan, present three names of nominees and mutually elect the caretaker PM.
