The Weinstein sex scandal awaiting possibility of new feature film

Published on: April 26, 2018 7:11 PM

Hollywood was shocked by the allegations made against the film tycoon Harvey Weinstein, which first came to light in a New York Times editorial. A dramatization on how The New York Times broke the news that alleged the influential Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment will now be made as a feature film.

The story has advanced continuously, with a great number of victimized women coming forward to say they were sexually abused or harassed by Weinstein. On the other hand, he has denied the allegations.

Annapurna Pictures and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment attained the film rights to the story by journalists Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor. Annapurna spokeswoman, Ashley Momtaheni said.

“The story sparked the #MeToo movement exposing workplace harassment and won a Pulitzer Prize last week.”

The movie will display how the journalists’ story originateds, and stories of other alleged sexual predators such as  Kevin Spacey and James Toback will also be included. The reporting was recently awarded the Pulitzer Prize for public service. The film will not only focus on Weinstein himself, but rather the analytical and undercover journalism behind the part.

Plan B is the production partnership between,Dede Gardner Jeremy Kleiner and Brad Pitt and future projects in the include the Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet-starrer “Beautiful Boy,” and Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight” follow-up “If Beale Street Could Talk.” Plan B contracted a three-year production agreement with Annapurna Pictures in 2017.
