Thar’s first desert hotel welcomes families over dining experience

Published on: June 30, 2018 12:34 AM

HYDERABAD (June 29, 2018): Tharparkar, the land of rich culture, traditions, natural beauty, and peace, now, invites families over a lavish dining experience at its gates. Café Thar has vouched to break many stereotypes concerned with hoteling for families.

Café Thar, a traditional asset of Thar, has pushed the male-dominated society to realise that if members of their family including mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters can work in fields from day to night, very far from their homes, then it is quite possible to give them a space for outing and hoteling, so they can enjoy some memorable moments together.

Piyaro Shivani, owner of Café Thar, in conversation with Daily Times shared how he was able to use some land from her field, in a creative approach, to facilitate the lack of tourism and initiatives for locals in the area.”This is why I preferred to establish a hotel with an agenda, a hotel where not only food and beverages should be available at any time, but along with it, to give an entire space to organic foods of Thar, with a variety of recipes.”

He added that the promotion of organic food is not his only agenda, but the promotion of classical and folk music, musicians, artists, writers, and activists also take second priority.

Earlier, many people have held their birthday celebrations, engagement gatherings, corner meetings, and other types of programs because of the easy to access location of the hotel and its environment, said Shivani, continuing that indigenous people of Thar are exploring their specialties with visitors and commuters. This helps tourists judge the worth of Thar by its history and commitment of such personalities. Many scholars and writers of the desert prefer to organise inaugurations and launching ceremonies of their visionary contributions at Café, as this enables them to possess the feeling of ownership.

“It will be more of a symbol of hope and strength when local Thari females will be able to open their own hotels and spaces for dining, encouraging the participation of female visitors to Thar the in rainy season. In this way, the message of freedom will spread through widely and vibrate many thoughts to others,” he concluded.

Sonia Kumari, a local Thari lady, shared that after her marriage it was the first time her whole family arranged a gathering over dinner here at Café Thar. “Undoubtedly, Mithi is the hub of Thar, but civic infrastructure isn’t tilted in the favour of women. I think such type of initiatives should be encouraged,” she said.

Dr. Sanam, from Naukot Thar, expressed her sentiments about Thar being her “land”; she is attached to this beauty because her family members and siblings still live here. “I have visited Café Thar scores of times; the way hotel management provides a menu of traditional food is wholly appreciated. I would recommend every Thari to visit and preserve such hotel-like heritage.”
