RAWALPINDI: Customs Department on Tuesday raided a private factory in Rawat area and recovered 21 vehicles worth 250 million rupees.
According to the reports Customs Department raided the compound of a textile mill and recovered 21 luxury vehicles. The mill was owned by former National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief Saif-ur-Rehman.
The customs officials said that cars were indentified with number plates of embassy, however, Qatar’s Embassy and factory official failed to provide documentation regarding import of the cars.
Saqar bin Mubarak, Qatari ambassador, in his letter said that the luxury vehicles were legally imported to Pakistan and were used for hunting purposes.
In his letter, the Qatari Ambassador said that the cars belong to the Qatari ruling family and had been parked in the property of Saif-ur-Rehman in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.
Customs officials, however said that they embassy failed to provide the documentation and did not disclosed the ownership of the vehicles. Customs did not find any import document.
Customs authorities recovered the vehicles on Monday night from a building of Redco Textile Mills situated in callar syedan area of Rawalpindi.
According to the customs report, over 40 vehicles were reportedly park in the building out of which 20 were shifted to some other place before the operation.
