‘Discipline comes first’: Khabib’s father angry over post-fight chaos

Published on: October 9, 2018 2:39 PM

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated former two-division champion Conor McGregor via a neck-crank on Sunday at UFC 229, but that’s just one part of the story.

Finishing McGregor off after a dominant performance inside the octagon, Khabib snapped over a heated argument with Conor’s team-mate Dillon Danis and jumped outside the cage to stir a fight after the fight.

Things became pretty chaotic in no time as some of the members of Khabib’s team rushed after him, while other’s ran inside the cage to attack McGregor, who had punched Khabib’s brother Abubakar Nurmagomedov.

As ordered was restored, both the fighters were escorted to their dressing rooms. Later, Khabib apologised for his actions in post-fight press conference, but reiterated that he was provoked by McGregor’s verbal jabs against his family, father and religion.

The entire event has, however, not pleased the senior Nurmagomedov. Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who probably is the most important man in Dagestan’s combat world, showed anger and regret over what Khabib did. “You can do whatever you want inside an octagon, but outside, there are children, women and random people. You just can not do that.”

Abdulmanap added that he will punish his son harder than the UFC ever will because discipline is his number one priority and by doing what Khabib did, he has disappointed him. Abdulmanap also confirmed that the financial issues have been resolved.
