‘Messi will play for national team again’: Argentina coach has not given up

Published on: November 16, 2018 12:24 PM

Argentina coach Lionel Scolani has expressed hope that national team captain Lionel Messi will join the squad soon.

Messi has not featured in a national team fixture since Argentina’s World Cup 2018 exit at the hands of France in round-of-16 in Russia. The Argentine has set all his focus on his club team FC Barcelona after being promoted as the captain and believes that the time to rejoin the national team is not right yet.

Scolani, however, believes that Messi will return to the national team sooner or rather than later. The coach said he has not talked with Messi so far over a potential return but he has not given up all hope.

“I did not talk to Messi about that. We discussed football, but we do not touch on issues that have to do with something that will happen in so many months. I estimate, wish and believe that he will return to the national team.”

Argentina will take on Mexico tomorrow (Saturday) and on Wednesday in two friendlies without captain Lionel Messi leading the charge.
