Sindh Assembly condemns terrorism in Balochistan and Sri Lanka

Published on: April 23, 2019 12:45 AM

The Provincial Assembly of Sindh unanimously adopted four resolutions condemning the incidents of terrorism in Balochistan and Sri Lanka, and death of a child in Karachi due to medical negligence, observed Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet on Monday.

The House met for four hours and 19 minutes. However, the proceedings remained suspended for three minutes due to Azan break. The sitting started at 1430 hours against the scheduled time of 1300 hours. The Speaker presided over the sitting for two hours and 38 minutes while the Deputy Speaker chaired the rest of the sitting.

The Leader of the House attended the sitting for an hour and 31 minutes while the Leader of the Opposition attended the sitting for an hour and 39 minutes. As many as 27 lawmakers (16%) were present at the commencement and 38 (23%) at the adjournment of the sitting. The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, TLP, MQMP and MMAP attended the sitting. As many as seven out of nine minority lawmakers attended the sitting.

Moved by PPPP lawmakers, the House unanimously adopted two supplementary resolutions condemning the incidents of terrorism in Quetta and Sri Lanka. As many as ten lawmakers debated these resolutions for 24 minutes. The House also adopted two multiparty resolutions condemning the incident of terrorism in Ormara and the death of a child in Karachi due to medical negligence. As many as 15 lawmakers debated these resolutions for 54 minutes.

The House did not take up a PTI lawmaker’s Adjournment Motion (AM) regarding outbreak of drug-resistant typhoid in the province due to absence of the mover. The Minister for Law answered five out of ten Starred Questions. In addition, the lawmakers asked 27 supplementary questions. The Minister also responded to four Call Attention Notices (CANs) highlighting the lack of emergency medical facilities in Jacobabad, missing facilities in Government Degree College Badin, collection of fees during summer vacations by private schools, and fake appointment orders. Moreover, a CAN regarding load-shedding was deferred due to absence of the mover. The House held Pre-Budget Discussion with one lawmaker participating in it. The House was adjourned to meet again on April 23, 2019 (Tuesday) at 1300 hours.
