President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has a pivotal role for the elimination of corruption from the country.
Talking to NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, who called on him at the Presidency, Alvi said indiscriminate accountability was need of the hour in order to discourage corrupt elements.
He said corruption had been a lifelong concern for him, as this menace had destroyed both the institutions and the economy of the country.
He said rooting out corruption was of utmost importance in order to ensure progress and development in the country.
He underscored that the government’s mission was to make Pakistan a corruption-free country, in which NAB had to play an important role.
Expressing his satisfaction over the performance of the NAB, he said the bureau was an independent institution and trust of the people in it would further be strengthened by its performance. The NAB chairman also presented the Annual Report 2018 of his organisation to the president.
