‘Love Guru’ beats bollywood’s ‘housefull 5’ in global box office race

Published on: June 20, 2025 2:21 PM

Romantic comedy Love Guru has taken the global box office by storm, surpassing the big-budget Bollywood film Housefull 5 in international earnings. Released worldwide on Eid-ul-Adha, the film is winning hearts, especially due to the popular on-screen pairing of Humayun Saeed and Mahira Khan.

In Love Guru, Mahira Khan plays a bold, artistic young woman, while Humayun Saeed stars as a charming man who effortlessly attracts women. Their chemistry, combined with a humorous storyline, has drawn a huge audience both in Pakistan and abroad.

Directed by renowned filmmaker Nadeem Baig and written by Vasay Chaudhry, Love Guru features a blend of romance, wit, and cultural flavor. The film includes comedic elements in Pashto and Punjabi, adding a local touch that viewers have praised for its originality and relatability.

Produced under the ARY Films banner, the movie has exceeded expectations internationally. In the UK alone, Love Guru earned £75,000 (around PKR 27 million) in its second week, outshining Housefull 5, which managed only £56,000 (roughly PKR 20 million) in the same timeframe.

Not only has the film surprised critics, but it has also filled Pakistanis across the globe with pride. Audiences have called it an entertaining mix of tradition and modern cinema, offering a refreshing alternative to typical Bollywood formulas.

Viewers, especially overseas, have appreciated the film’s unique portrayal of Pakistani culture. Many have called it a more enjoyable and heartfelt experience compared to recent Bollywood offerings, further cementing Love Guru’s growing global popularity.
