
RAWALPINDI: Outgoing Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza paid a farewell visit to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Tuesday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported.

During the meeting, COAS Munir commended General Mirza for his exemplary leadership, strategic foresight, and dedicated service to the Pakistan Armed Forces. He praised the outgoing CJCSC for his pivotal role in enhancing tri-service synergy, strengthening joint operational preparedness, and advancing Pakistan’s national security objectives at the strategic level.

The army chief also highlighted General Mirza’s contributions towards regional stability, military diplomacy, and fostering partnerships with friendly countries. In response, General Mirza expressed gratitude to the COAS and the armed forces for the support extended to him throughout his career.

Upon arrival at GHQ, the CJCSC laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and was presented with a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army, marking a ceremonial farewell.

Earlier this month, the national security establishment underwent a major restructuring through an amendment to Article 243 of the Constitution, alongside changes in legislations governing the Army, Air Force, and Navy. The amendment also abolished the office of CJCSC, a tri-service post designed to maintain institutional balance and coordination within the armed forces.

The dissolution of the CJCSC office, effective November 27, will formally end nearly five decades of joint-service representation in decision-making, including during wartime, marking the close of a historic chapter in Pakistan’s military structure.
