Bangladesh national cricket team moved closer to a memorable Test series sweep against Pakistan national cricket team after tightening their grip on the Sylhet Test despite a determined unbeaten innings from Mohammad Rizwan. Pakistan ended the fourth day at 316 for 7 in their second innings while chasing a massive target of 437 runs. With only three wickets remaining and another 121 runs still needed, Bangladesh now stand firmly in control heading into the final day of the contest.
Rizwan produced a fighting knock under pressure and remained unbeaten on 75 at stumps after leading Pakistan’s resistance during the tense evening session. He also built an important 134-run partnership with Salman Ali Agha, who scored a valuable 71 before falling late in the day. Their partnership slowed Bangladesh’s momentum and briefly revived Pakistan’s hopes after the visitors had struggled following the loss of early wickets during the difficult chase.

Earlier in the innings, Pakistan captain Shan Masood played a composed knock of 71 while Babar Azam added 47 during a steady third-wicket partnership. The pair helped stabilise the innings after early setbacks and attempted to build momentum against Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack. However, Bangladesh regained control through consistent pressure from Taijul Islam, Nahid Rana and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who kept creating opportunities throughout the day.
Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam delivered another impressive performance and finished the day with four wickets in Pakistan’s second innings. He removed both Salman Agha and Hasan Ali during the closing stages to leave Pakistan in serious trouble before the final day. His accurate bowling and ability to strike at crucial moments once again highlighted Bangladesh’s dominance across the series and strengthened their chances of completing a clean sweep.

Earlier, Bangladesh built their commanding position through an excellent batting display led by Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored a brilliant 137 in the second innings. Litton Das also contributed an important 69 as the hosts posted 390 after gaining a first-innings advantage. Their strong batting effort ensured Pakistan faced an extremely difficult chase on a pitch that increasingly favoured Bangladesh’s spin attack as the match progressed.
Pakistan’s remaining hopes now depend heavily on Rizwan, who will need support from the lower order to prevent Bangladesh from securing another historic home victory. Meanwhile, Bangladesh require only three more wickets to complete a 2-0 series sweep and strengthen their growing reputation in Test cricket. The final day in Sylhet promises high tension as Bangladesh chase history while Pakistan fight desperately to avoid another painful series defeat.
