Trump claims Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire deal

Published on: June 2, 2026 2:51 AM

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a ceasefire following diplomatic contacts involving senior representatives. The development matters because it could ease tensions in an already volatile region. The reported agreement affects Israel, Lebanon, Iran, and broader Middle East stability.

In a statement posted on social media, Trump said he held a productive telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He claimed that no military forces would be sent toward Beirut and that troops already dispatched had been ordered to return. Trump described the discussions as focused on regional security and de-escalation efforts.

The US president also said indirect contacts with Hezbollah had produced a ceasefire understanding. According to Trump, the arrangement would see Israel refrain from attacking Hezbollah positions, while Hezbollah would halt operations against Israel. However, neither Israel nor Hezbollah has publicly confirmed the reported agreement.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran has suspended the exchange of messages with the United States. The report said Iranian officials linked the decision to escalating Israeli military actions in Lebanon. Tehran reportedly maintains that talks cannot proceed until its demands regarding Gaza and Lebanon are addressed.

Earlier, Trump told US media that Iran had not formally informed Washington of any suspension in communications. He added that the United States would wait until Iran was prepared to negotiate under conditions acceptable to Washington. The latest developments highlight ongoing diplomatic uncertainty despite claims of progress toward reducing regional tensions.
