Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has clarified that Pakistan’s nuclear program is strictly for defence and national security, not for asserting dominance in the region. He made the remarks through a post on social media platform X, stressing that the country’s capabilities are aimed at deterring threats, not provoking them.
He further stated that Pakistan respects international nuclear agreements and follows all global protocols related to non-proliferation. “We do not seek hegemony. Our goal is to ensure safety and stability for our people,” Asif said, highlighting Pakistan’s responsible nuclear posture.
In contrast, the minister expressed serious concern over Israel’s recent actions, calling them aggressive and dangerous. He warned that Israel’s current path could lead to increased instability not only in the Middle East but also in the wider world. “Such moves may trigger a crisis with far-reaching consequences,” he noted.
Asif criticized what he described as the Western world’s continuous support for Israel, calling the country a “rogue state” whose unchecked actions pose a serious threat to global peace. He urged world powers to rethink their stance and act responsibly before the situation worsens.
Moreover, he reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to peace and will continue to adopt a balanced approach. At the same time, the country reserves the right to defend itself in the face of any external threat, ensuring its sovereignty and security remain intact.
