Punjab Inter-Clubs Senior Men’s, Women’s Weightlifting set to begin in Gujranwala

The Punjab Inter-Clubs Senior Men’s and Women’s Weightlifting Championship is all set to commence on Friday, October 31, at the Mehmood Shaheed Weightlifting Club, located in Satellite Town, Gujranwala. The three-day championship, which will run until Sunday, November 2, is being organized under the supervision of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) in collaboration with local sports authorities. According to Sohail Javed Butt, Media Coordinator for the PWF, the event will feature participation from certified weightlifters and those who have successfully completed the Anti-Doping Action Plan Course. The championship aims to promote clean, competitive weightlifting and provide a platform for athletes to demonstrate their strength and discipline in a regulated environment. The event is being organized by Maqsood Amjad Rathore, a Gold Medalist at the Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship, who brings both experience and vision to the tournament’s execution.

The inauguration ceremony will take place on Friday at 3:00 PM, with Commissioner of Gujranwala, Naveed Haider Sherazi, serving as the Chief Guest. The prize distribution ceremony will be presided over by Naveed Ahmed the Deputy Commissioner of Gujranwala DSO Gujranwala Ameer Ahmed Khan, adding official recognition to the athletes’ efforts and achievements.

This championship is part of the broader effort by the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation to strengthen grassroots participation, encourage gender inclusion, and elevate the competitive standards of weightlifting across Punjab. With certified athletes competing in a structured and transparent environment, the event is expected to spotlight emerging talent and reinforce the province’s commitment to Olympic sports development, he added.
