K-Electric grants Ashura relief with power and payment ease

Published on: June 23, 2026 7:21 PM

K-Electric has announced special arrangements for Ashura, including load-shedding exemptions in selected areas of Karachi to support religious gatherings and ensure uninterrupted power supply during important observances. The utility said the measures aim to facilitate mourners and help maintain smooth arrangements throughout the Ashura period.

According to the company, 371 feeders across its network have been designated as high-priority feeders in locations where processions, majalis and other religious events will take place. Among them, 244 medium and high-loss feeders that normally experience scheduled load shedding will remain exempt during the specified period.

The exemption will remain effective from the evening of 8th Muharram until the morning of 11th Muharram. Furthermore, K-Electric stated that it has coordinated extensively with relevant authorities and stakeholders to identify key procession routes and congregation points to ensure reliable electricity services.

Meanwhile, the utility has placed its operational teams on high alert and deployed additional technical resources across the city. These teams will remain available to respond quickly to any network faults, power disruptions or emergency situations that may arise during Ashura-related activities.

In addition to power supply measures, K-Electric has extended electricity bill payment deadlines for customer convenience during the holidays. Bills carrying due dates of June 25 and June 26, 2026, can now be paid until June 29 without any late payment surcharge.

The company has informed all scheduled banks and authorised collection centres about the revised payment schedule. It also urged citizens to remain cautious around electrical infrastructure, especially overhead power lines, to help ensure a safe and peaceful observance of Ashura across Karachi.
