Duchess Sophie highlighted the importance of sustainable agriculture during a visit to Trinity Manor Farm in Jersey, where she met local farmers and explored environmentally responsible farming practices. The engagement formed part of her ongoing work as Honorary President of LEAF, an organisation that promotes sustainable food production and environmental stewardship.
During the visit, the Duchess met Belinda, a well-known Jersey cow, along with other members of the farm’s prized cattle herd. Farm representatives explained how dairy producers on the island are working to balance efficient food production with biodiversity protection and long-term environmental sustainability.
Trinity Manor Farm plays a significant role in Jersey’s agricultural sector and produces millions of litres of milk each year. The visit allowed Sophie to learn more about innovative farming methods that help reduce environmental impact while supporting the local economy and preserving natural resources.
Moreover, the Duchess met agricultural leaders and discussed the role of regenerative farming in addressing climate challenges. She received updates on initiatives designed to improve soil health, protect wildlife habitats and encourage farming practices that benefit both communities and the environment.
Sophie also spent time with local children, joining them in potato-picking activities before touring a production facility. The hands-on experience provided an opportunity to highlight the connection between farming, food production and education while encouraging awareness of sustainable agricultural practices among younger generations.
The visit also showcased Jersey Dairy’s achievements in environmental responsibility. The company became the first dairy producer in the world to display the LEAF Marque on its milk packaging, a recognised certification that reflects commitment to sustainable and climate-friendly farming standards.
