
Pakistan hosted and chaired the 12th meeting of the Heads of Border Services of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states on Friday. The meeting focused on strengthening regional security cooperation and improving coordination among border authorities.
According to the Foreign Office, senior officials from Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan attended the meeting. Representatives from the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) also participated.
The participants exchanged assessments about security conditions along international borders of SCO countries. They discussed emerging challenges, future trends, and measures to enhance cooperation between border services.

The meeting approved the outcomes of the joint border operation “Solidarity-2025” conducted by SCO member states. Officials also approved preparations for “Solidarity-2026” and supported Tajikistan’s proposal to host the operation in 2027.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Office said the discussions would contribute to stronger cooperation, improved security, and greater mutual trust among SCO members. Iranian Border Guard Commander Brigadier General Ali Akbar Javidan also expressed interest in expanding cooperation with member states.

Javidan said Iran wanted to enhance security coordination, information sharing, and joint efforts against drug trafficking, organised crime, and smuggling. The meeting reflected SCO members’ focus on addressing shared regional challenges.
Additionally, Pakistan is scheduled to assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State in September. The country will also host the next SCO summit, further highlighting its role in regional cooperation.
