Malir River bridge to be closed for expressway construction

Published on: July 18, 2026 7:45 AM

Traffic on both carriageways of the Malir River Bridge on the National Highway will remain temporarily closed from 7am to 7pm on July 18 and 19 due to development and construction work related to the under-construction Malir Expressway project, according to a press release issued on Friday by Karachi Traffic Police. The press release said the closure would be in effect within the jurisdiction of the Malir City Traffic Section to facilitate the safe, effective and timely completion of the development work. According to the traffic police, motorists travelling from Quaidabad should take a U-turn on Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Expressway and proceed towards Malir City to reach their destinations. Traffic approaching from the Malook Hotel on the National Highway should pass beneath the Malir River Bridge and continue towards Steel Mills, the press release said. Karachi Traffic Police urged citizens to use the designated alternative routes during their journeys and comply with traffic regulations. The traffic police said its personnel would remain on site to guide motorists and ensure the smooth flow of traffic. For traffic-related emergencies or assistance, citizens have been advised to contact the Traffic Police helpline on 1915, where representatives are available at all times, according to the press release.
